I sat down for lunch with my Queenstown Buyers Agent colleague to thank her and reflect on the past 4 and a bit years. Marion is leaving to live in Hong Kong for a few years.

What was abundantly clear was how, by not being money driven, we were able to service our clients thoroughly ensuring that making a sale was not our primary driver. We were able to hand on heart agree that every property purchased had been a trophy property for what the client was wanting. No matter whether it was a $900,000 unit or a luxury property every find will have exceeded the buyers expectations. This for both of us is the reason for being in business – we find what we do immensely satisfying.

Most of our success relates to a few things. Being passionate and genuinely interested in property helps, but spending time to totally understand who we are working for, how they live and what the intended use of the property is, is paramount.

Being people, people, saw Marion and I mixing and mingling keeping our radars out meaning that we are fast out of the blocks.

Being naturally instinctive about real estate let opportunities be evaluated in a heart beat leaving many still wondering when the opportunity was still in its infancy. Having tools at our fingertips and some of the best service providers working alongside us sees our Buyers Agent skills realise the opportunities.

Proudly, Marion reminded me that the bulk of your purchases also came in UNDER budget. That is impressive.

Going the extra mile put clients before other priorities so that no opportunity to see something was missed. I knew that Marion’s persistence to want to meet initially was an indication of the attitude required to join me when on a chains only day she insisted on not postponing our meeting.

It has been fantastic to put our heads together on projects too – we have loved bouncing strategies off each other. For that reason when an equally tenacious approach to becoming a Buyers Agent was made to me, I explored it. I’m thrilled to be able to continue to have someone share the journey with. Nicki Perry who has significant real estate experience, owns multiple properties in the basin, is a real people person and is a selfless type fits the company ethos perfectly.

I have previously had vendors agents try the role but being a Buyers Agent is completely different from being in sales and it didn’t work. Nicki has spent many years in Queenstown and has worked in Hong Kong with buyers and also in property management so the fit with what is required is perfect.

My instinct tells me that despite thinking that the Queenstown Buyers agent shoes were going to be tricky ones to fill they have been and expertly too. Exciting times for all.
